ALPENA - The Alpena girls swimming team defeated Standish-Sterling 110-48 on Tuesday in Alpena.

Sophomore Jacquelyn Frantz set personal records in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. Ten other Wildcats also recorded personal bests: Ellie Quick in the 200 freestyle; Tryst Bukowiecki, Emma Winfield, Nandi Bancroft, Brynna O'Connor and Farrah Williams in the 50 freestyle; Eva Trainer in the 100 butterfly; Haley Stenz in the 100 freestyle; Madelyn Farley in the 500 freestyle; and Lucy Duthler in the 100 backstroke.

"I am proud of the team's overall performance and the individual accomplishments throughout the meet," Alpena coach Jennifer Johnson said. "Tonight was another great opportunity for our girls to compete, and I was especially pleased to see so many personal records."

Johnson said time drops and stroke improvements show that practice is carrying over into meets. She said the team's goal is to keep improving together and finish the season stronger than it started.

Alpena travels to Ogemaw on Oct. 13. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
