ALPENA - Sam Bastow scored twice in the first half as Alpena blanked Cadillac 2-0 in boys varsity soccer on Tuesday.

Bastow opened the scoring early after receiving a pass from Mason Burns. He added his second goal about 10 minutes into the match off an assist from Jackson Birmingham. Alpena led 2-0 at halftime.

The Wildcats generated several more chances after the break, but Cadillac's goalkeeper and defense held. Alpena's defense turned away a pair of late Cadillac threats to preserve the shutout. Goalkeeper Jayden Crandall made two saves.

"Glad to see Sam Bastow get a couple goals. He has been progressing all season and his hard work is paying off," Alpena coach Ken Dragiewicz said. "Our offense had several additional scoring chances, but we were unable to find the back of the net. Our defense had another solid game, especially in the second half, and we were able to get the shutout."

Alpena hosts Grayling, Traverse City St. Francis, and Cheboygan on Saturday.
