Alpena swim team splits duals against Gaylord, Ludington

ALPENA – The Alpena varsity swim team recorded mixed dual-meet results and numerous personal bests in its second competition of the 2026 season.
Gaylord defeated Alpena 578-564 before Alpena bounced back and beat Ludington 592-388, coach Jennifer Johnson said.
Johnson said the standout development was widespread individual improvement. Multiple Alpena swimmers posted personal records, including several significant gains from last season and first-year performances.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Olivia Sherwood, Gabriella Tolan, Lucy Duthler and Emma Darga combined for a personal-best time. Tolan added another personal record in the 200-yard individual medley.
Aubree Baur, Emma Darga and Emma Winfield each set personal bests in the 50-yard freestyle. Lucy Duthler and Arabella Nunez recorded personal records in the 100-yard butterfly, while Haley Stenz and Ellie Quick did the same in the 100-yard freestyle.
Emma Darga, Gabriella Tolan and Elizabeth Rabbideau posted personal bests in the 500-yard freestyle. Ellie Quick, Gabriella Tolan, Jacquelyn Frantz and Eva Trainer combined for a personal-record time in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Aubree Bauer set a personal best in the 100-yard backstroke.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Ellie Quick, Emma Winfield, Lucy Duthler and Jacquelyn Frantz recorded a personal-best performance. Olivia Sherwood, Emma Darga, Arabella Nunez and Elizabeth Rabbideau also turned in a strong effort in the event.
"It was a great meet by everyone, and the continued improvement from last season is a testament to the team's hard work, determination and commitment in the pool," Johnson said.
