ALPENA -- Alpena hosted its first powderpuff football game on Monday with Alpena's junior class facing off against the seniors.

The juniors, led by quarterback Braylen Durfee and receiver Reese Wisniewski, ultimately won 6-0 and took down the seniors.

"We battled through adversity all night, but we came out with the win. I had a great time coaching these girls and they played their hearts out tonight," Junior coach Jonny Rensberry said.

The juniors received the ball to start the game and were determined to score. Avery Dubey began the game with a 14-yard rush and a 13-yard rush that gave the juniors the early momentum. Reese Wisniewski had a few big runs in a row that kept the drive moving. After a couple more plays with 8:55 left on the clock, the juniors ran a pitch with Durfee to Wisniewski which ended up being a 21-yard touchdown.

This gave the juniors an early 6-0 lead, but the seniors stopped the two-point conversion limiting the damage.

The seniors struggled to get much of an offensive drive going throughout the game. After several defensive stops for both teams, the juniors led 6-0 going into halftime.

The seniors received the ball to start the second half, and they began to get it going offensively. Quarterback Marah Wisniewski found her running back, Lanie Morgan, several times on the drive for gains of 23 yards, 15 yards, and 10 yards. Eventually, the senior's drive stalled out and they turned the ball back over to the juniors.

Almost immediately after the juniors got the ball back with 4:25 left in the second half, Braylen Durfee threw an interception to Lanie Morgan.

With one last opportunity to come back and win the game, the seniors had the momentum and were set on winning the game.

In the end, the seniors could not come back to win it and ended up falling just short with a final of 6-0.

"I'm really proud of the girls, we were not expecting to play in these types of weather conditions, but we tried our best. We had some difficulties on the offensive side of the ball which was the main problem, but we had a great time and I think the girls had fun as well," Senior coach Cam Stevens said.

"The whole experience was really fun, we got all the girls together and had a good time. We only had enough time for a couple of practices and I think we played pretty well for only having that much time to prepare," Senior assistant coach Brady Niedzwiecki said.
