Alpena Gymnastics AAU brings home 33 National Championship medals

ALPENA — Last month, Alpena’s competitive team went down to Springfield, Illinois to compete in the AAU National Gymnastics Championships. Alpena proudly brought home 33 National Championship medals.

Xcel Gold gymnasts, Callie Brousseau, Ezra Peterson, and Cece Weaver brought back Gold. Callie won first place on the bars earning a 9.625. Ezra won first place on the vault, earning a 9.2, and Cece also won first place on the beam earning a 9.225.

Alpena had nine other gymnasts bring back medals. From the Xcel Silver team, Abby Reinhardt earned third place on the beam with a 9.4, while Clare LaCross earned fourth place on beam earning a 9.4.

On the Xcel Gold team, Alliyah Hagemeister earned two second place finishes on the vault (9.2) and bars (9.45). Savanna Spangle earned a second place finish on the vault with a 9.35, while Lola Halleck earned second place on the bars with a 9.5.

Lastly, on the Xcel Platinum team Paige Samp earned a second place finish with a 9.1, Faith Dragiewicz earned third place on vault with a 9.375, Brooke Smith earned a 9.15 placing her fifth on the vault, and Grace Samp took fourth place on the vault (9.35), and floor (9.35).
