ACC softball players honored for 2022 season

ALPENA -- Three members of the Alpena Community College softball team were recently honored by the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference.

Jade Schultz earned Division II all-region honors and was named first team all-conference. Maddie Wilkinson and Avery Zipp both earned all-conference honorable mentions.

In the circle, Schultz made 22 appearances for ACC and started 20 games. Over 132.2 innings, she pitched 19 complete games with 84 strikeouts, 38 walks, 169 hits allowed and 82 runs scored with a 4.33 earned-run average.

At the plate, Schultz played in 32 games and batted .363 in 91 appearances. She scored 23 runs and recorded 31 hits, including eight doubles, four home runs and drove in 10 runs.

Last season, Schultz was named to the Division II all-region and all-Michigan Community College Athletic Association team and MCCAA first team. She was also named to the MCCAA's all-freshman team and was named Freshman of the Year.

Wilkinson played in 33 games and batted .312 with 93 at-bats. She scored 15 runs and collected 29 hits, including five doubles and a home run with five RBI.

In the field, Wilkinson recorded 40 put-outs and had a fielding percentage of .865.

Zipp appeared in 31 games and batted a team-best .363. She scored 15 runs and had a team-high 33 hits, including five doubles and two home runs with 14 RBI.

As a catcher/infielder, Zipp had a fielding percentage of .977 with 80 put-outs.

In addition to Schultz, three other ACC players were honored last year: Paige Wooden also earned Division II all-region and all-MCCAA team honors as well as nods on the MCCAA first team and all-freshman team; Dayna LaBell was named to the MCCAA's first team and was also named to the all-freshman team; Aubree Sheldon earned second team all-conference honors.
