ALPENA–The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team broke into the win column for the first time this season, edging Macomb 71-69 on Sunday at Park Arena.

“Great victory at home for these young men. They played outstanding team basketball tonight. I truly believe that we are as talented as anybody in the league when we play together,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “Tonight, we proved it.”

Parker Neu had 25 points for the Lumberjacks (1-3) and Chris DeRocher added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

“There was no point in the game where we didn’t play hard. We were down by eight in the first half and clawed back. We were down by five with under five minutes to go in the game and just kept working,” Jacobs said. “These guys deserve this win.”

ACC led 34-32 at halftime and both teams scored 37 points in the second half.

Kelley Stark had nine points and 10 rebounds for ACC, which will host Oakland on Friday.

“One of the biggest victories in a while for ACC,” Jacobs said. “Before the game, all I asked them was to give me 100% and they succeeded in doing just that.”
