LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Posen, Hillman, Alcona post girls hoops wins

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Posen 69, Hale 52
POSEN–Ella Szatkowski scored 22 points, Makayla Kamyszek added 16 and the Vikings won their fifth straight game on Friday. Hale kept things interesting, hitting nine three-pointers on the night, but Posen (5-1, 5-0 North Star League) kept its composure and used a 36-23 halftime lead to stay ahead in what coach Karl Momrik said was a wake-up call for his team.
Posen hosts Fairview on Monday.
Hillman 42, Tawas 24
HILLMAN–Sage Flaugher scored 14 points, Nicole Barbeau added eight and the Tigers (5-3) picked things up on Parents Night after a slow first half. Hillman coach Jenny Taratuta said the Tigers finished strong and had a well-balanced scoring effort to win their second game in as many nights. Hillman outscored the Braves 29-11 in the second half.
Hillman plays Hale on Monday.
Fairview 41, Atlanta 26
FAIRVIEW–Shaelynne Lance had eight points for the Huskies (1-5), who trailed just 13-12 at halftime, but couldn’t put together a run in the second half. Atlanta coach Morgan Hardies said her team came out strong in the second half and played well defensively, but was hurt down the stretch by foul trouble and fatigue.
Atlanta plays Posen on Tuesday.
Alcona 57, Mio 39
MIO–Kelsey Hansen had 23 points, Lily Bilbey had 14 and Rachel Layton added eight for the Tigers (5-1) on Friday. Alcona led 31-21 at halftime and used a strong defensive effort to pull away in the second half.
Alcona plays at Whittemore-Prescott on Monday.
Oscoda 78, W-P 26
WHITTEMORE–Mia Whiskey had 23 points, Macy Kellstrom had 18 and Izzy Hulverson scored 13 for the Owls (8-0), who picked up another key league win on Friday.
Oscoda plays at Ogemaw Heights on Saturday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Fairview 51, Atlanta 49
FAIRVIEW–Aaron Cuzzort had 21 points for the Huskies, who dropped a close game Friday after struggling on the boards and at the free throw line. Trenton Whitt added 18 points and 18 rebounds.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
St. Clair 88, Alpena 59
ST. CLAIR–Jade Schultz had 24 points for the Lumberjacks, Jordan Kobielus added 11 and Linnea Hentkowski had nine on Friday. Alpena hosts Macomb on Sunday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
St. Clair 94, Alpena 56
ST. CLAIR–Parker Neu had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Lumberjacks on Friday and Chris DeRocher added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
