SAGINAW — Madi Szymanski is headed to the state finals.
The Alpena High junior finished third at a Division 2 regional, crossing the line in 19:19.85, to punch her ticket to Friday’s final at Michigan International Speedway while also earning all-region honors.
Szymanski was one of five Wildcats competing in Saturday’s regional. Freshman Emma Dickins also competed in the girls race and finished in 21:18.39.
In the boys race, sophomore Hunter Hitzelberger finished in 17:48.08, Jacob Kochanski finished 18:04.06 and Hayden Allen finished in 18:13.61.
In East Jordan, Alcona’s Carter Upper recorded a personal best, while falling short of qualifying for states at a Division 4 regional. He crossed the line in 19:33, finishing 25th out of 67 runners.
