PREP ROUNDUP: Hillman wins playoff opener over Atlanta

ATLANTA–The Hillman football team began its 2020 postseason with a dominant win and an important victory over one of its biggest rivals.

Jeff Klein ran for 301 yards and three scores on 33 carries to lead the Tigers past Atlanta, 54-22, in a Division 2 8-Player district matchup on Saturday.

The win advances Hillman to a regional semifinal against Marion on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m. in Marion.

The win evens up the Hillman Atlanta rivalry at 31-31-2 all time since 1956.

Sean Henigan had 14 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown and Dawson Ableidinger had five carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.

“”We had an outstanding team effort. Our offensive line dominated up front and gave our backs room to run all night,” Hillman coach Cody Allen said. “I’m very proud of the effort and energy we played with. We will have to bring that again next week at Marion.”

Owen Moulten had seven carries for 46 yards and touchdown for Hillman and AJ Jones also had a pair of one-yard rushing scores.

Dawson Ableidinger led Hillman’s defense with 16 tackles and one sack and had one catch for 24 yards.
