PREP ROUNDUP: Onaway tops Posen in 2OT; Hillman, Rogers City defeated

ONAWAY–The Posen football team came up short in its regular season finale, but never stopped fighting in a 22-14 double overtime loss to Onaway on Friday.

Posen (2-3) was held in check defensively by the Cardinals–who finished the regular season undefeated–in the extra time during a game with sloppy conditions.

Posen led 14-8 at halftime.

“They played their hearts out. I’m really proud of them. It’s too bad we had to lose this one,” Posen coach Greg Pietsch said. “It was a really great football game; one of the best games I’ve ever been involved with.”

Lucas Stone did a little of everything for the Vikings on Friday. On offense, he ran for 194 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries and recorded 12 solo tackles.

Ben Romel added eight tackles for Posen and Chase Dubie had seven.

Gaylord St. Mary 44, Hillman 20

HILLMAN–The Hillman football team ran out of steam down the stretch, falling 44-20 to Gaylord St. Mary in its regular season finale.

Hillman (2-4) trailed 28-20 in the fourth quarter before the Snowbirds seized momentum and pulled away. The Tigers also led 14-12 at halftime.

“We played with an outstanding effort tonight but came up short,” Hillman coach Cody Allen said. “I’m very proud of the way we battled throughout the night.”

Sean Henigan had 12 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown for Hillman; Owen Moulton had 18 carries for 72 yds and a touchdown; and Dawson Ableidinger led Hillman’s defense with 12 tackles and a 37-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Roscommon 38,

Alcona 12

ROSCOMMON–The Alcona football team dropped its regular season finale on Friday, losing to Roscommon 38-12.

Alcona’s defense was led by Zach Stephenson, who had 12 tackles and an interception. Stephenson also led the offense for Alcona (0-6) with 98 yards rushing and 81 yards passing, including a touchdown to Gavin Walker.

Manton 20,

Rogers City 14

ROGERS CITY–A early fourth quarter touchdown on a quarterback draw proved to be the difference as Manton topped Rogers City 20-14 on Friday.

The win was Manton’s first since Sept. 2018, ending an 18 game losing streak

The Hurons (2-4) led 14-12 after three quarters, but the Rangers scored just seven seconds into the fourth quarter and had a successful conversion.

Manton scored late in the first quarter for an early 6-0 lead, but the Hurons tied the game early in the second quarter on an 18-yard touchdown pass.

The Rangers took the lead back with 5:16 left in the half and Rogers City scored on a one-yard and added a successful conversion in the final minute of the half for a 14-12 lead.

Pellston 54, Atlanta 20

PELLSTON–The Atlanta football team fell behind 20-0 after one quarter on Thursday and had trouble keeping up in a 54-20 loss to Pellston to end the regular season.

Trace Juergens had a 45-yard touchdown run and a 70-yard touchdown catch for the Huskies (3-3).

VOLLEYBALL

Hillman 3, Posen 1

HILLMAN–The Hillman volleyball team earned a four-set victory over Posen on Thursday, beating the Vikings 25-21, 25-18, 16-25 and 25-14.

Julia Taratuta had three aces, 35 digs, an assist and six kills for Hillman; Davi Stewart had a kill and eight digs; Melanie Morrison had 14 kills and 15 digs; Emalie Lis had two aces, three digs, 11 kills and a block; Emma Libby had six aces, 10 digs, 15 assists and three kills; Angelina Hunt had five aces, 6 digs, five kills and two blocks and Nicole Barbeau had 20 digs, six aces and two assists.
