Offense shines in Alpena volleyball win

SAULT STE. MARIE — The Alpena High volleyball team made quick work of Sault Ste. Marie on Monday, topping the Blue Devils 25-12, 25-23 and 25-22.

Allie DeRocher led Alpena’s offensive charge with nine kills. Kate Skiba, Tiffany Tessmer, and Allie Urlaub each added six kills.

The Wildcats also turned in a strong defensive performance with seven blocks, including five from DeRocher.

Defensively, DeRocher had 12 digs. Kami Schultz and Urlaub had 11 digs each. Skiba and Jade Gray each added three aces.

Alpena’s JV team also won on Monday, 25-10, 20-25 and 15-11. Avery Dubey had 11 assists and four aces, Maddie Linton had six kills and Olivia Precord had 11 digs.

Alpena’s freshman team won 25-19, 25-17, 15-12.

Alcona 6, W-P 0

WHITTEMORE — The Alcona soccer team put on a clinic on both ends of the field on Monday, beating Whittemore-Prescott 6-0 while not allowing the Cardinals a shot on goal.

Five different players scored for Alcona in the win. Corey Boboltz scored twice and Alcona got single tallies from Tim Jamieson, Avery Wrobol, Dawson Rigby and Grace Atkinson.

Alcona plays Whittemore again on Tuesday.
