Huron Shores cancels youth baseball season

ALPENA — The Alpena Huron Shores Babe Ruth youth baseball/softball 2020 season has been canceled, the group announced Friday.

“Please know that this was extremely difficult for us as a board to come to this conclusion,” the group said. “The safety of our children, coaches, umpires, and parents is as always the basis of our decision. We look forward to seeing you all back next spring. Keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook page as there may be instructional clinics or other events this summer.”

The youth league joins the majority of sporting events, festivals, and more canceled for the summer over ongoing concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

Full refunds will be available to parents, but the group asks that parents refrain from messaging them during “an extremely difficult and time-consuming process.” Emails will be sent with instructions for obtaining a refund.

“May God bless you all, keep you safe, and once again allow us all to play ball!” the group said.
