Coaches group honors area cagers

ALPENA — Several Northeast Michigan athletes were honored by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan this week.

Two Oscoda boys basketball players were honored: Junior Owen Franklin was named to the boys Division 3 BCAM team as one of the best, while senior Brayden Mallak received honorable mention.

Franklin averaged 22.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this season for the Owls, while Mallak averaged 17.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his senior campaign.

Rogers City junior Nick Freel also received honorable mention for Division 3. He averaged 18.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this season for the Hurons.

On the girls side, Oscoda senior Lauren Langley was named to the Division 3 team, while Posen senior Riley Krajniak received honorable mention for the Division 4 team.

Langley averaged 20.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game this season for Oscoda.

Krajniak averaged 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this season for Posen.

Players were nominated for the honor by their BCAM member coaches.
