PREP ROUNDUP: Oscoda holds off Hurons with fourth quarter run

ROGERS CITY–Lauren Langley had 19 points, Olivia Toppi added 12 and the Oscoda girls basketball team held off a spirited effort from Rogers City to beat the Hurons 56-34 on Thursday.

Oscoda (13-3) led 31-29 after three quarters and finally pulled away from the Hurons (4-12) with a 24-5 run in the fourth quarter.

Langley had 13 points in the fourth quarter and Oscoda hit three-triples to build a sizable lead.

“We played a though third quarters, but we ran out of gas playing back-to-back nights,” Rogers City coach Duane Pitts said.

Macy Kellstrom added nine points for Oscoda and Izzy Hulverson had eight points.

Karissa Rabeau had 11 points for Rogers City and Kyrsten Altman and Kyley LaFleche each had nine.

Gaylord St. Mary 48,

Onaway 24

GAYLORD — The Onaway girls basketball team suffered a tough road loss at Gaylord St. Mary on Thursday night, losing to the Snowbirds by a final of 48-24.

“Tonight wasn’t our night. We were beat on every concept of the game tonight and struggled on both ends,” Onaway coach John George said. “They hit shots and defensively, their pressure got to us. They were the better team tonight.”

The Cardinals’ leading scorer was Breya Domke with eight points and Jillian Chaskey added six points.

Onaway is 8-6 overall on the year and will host Mancelona next Thursday.
