PREP ROUNDUP: Big offensive night leads Posen to win; Alcona tops Cards

AU GRES–Eyan Hincka had 16 points and nine rebounds and the Posen boys basketball team had a stellar night offensively on the way to a 67-38 win over Au Gres on Tuesday.

Lucas Stone had 12 points and 10 assists for the Vikings (9-4) and George Kroll and Wyatt Romel each had 12 points.

Cameron Paull added eight points as Posen built a 34-17 lead by halftime and kept surging ahead.

“We maintained our full-court pressure and the key is we had four kids in double figures,” Posen coach Chris Keller said. “It makes it hard to stop a team with so many options. The team is so unselfish and has a will to win. I’m hoping that carries over for the rest of the season.”

Posen hosts Atlanta on Friday in a varsity doubleheader.

Alcona 71, W-P 63

WHITTEMORE–Aidan Wrobel scored 19 points, Dominic Howe added 18 and the Alcona boys basketball team topped Whittemore-Prescott 71-63 in a North Star League shootout on Tuesday.

Alcona (6-7) led 27-18 after one quarter, 45-28 at halftime and 54-51 after three quarters.

“It was kind of a tale of two halves tonight. We played aggressive and shot the ball well in the first half,” Alcona coach Ryan Bilbey said. “Dana Thorson showed why he’s an elite scorer in this area and he took over in the third quarter scoring, 16 points while we struggled to score in the third. We played better in the fourth quarter and showed perseverance.”

Jacob Sytek added 11 points for Alcona.

Oscoda 79, Tawas 51

OSCODA–Owen Franklin scored 21 points, Brayden Mallak added 18 and the Oscoda boys basketball team improved to 12-0 with a 79-51 win over Tawas at home on Tuesday.

Gabe Kellstrom added 11 points for Oscoda and Michael Gepfrey had nine.

Oscoda hosts Rogers City on Friday.

Hale 97, Fairview 50

HALE–Joe Kimmerer had 35 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and five steals as the Hale boys basketball team powered past Fairview, 97-50, on Tuesday.

Hale led 17-10 after one quarter, but pushed its lead to 43-26 by halftime and 68-41 after three quarters.

Keaton Ludwig had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Hale.

Grant Lietzke led Fairview with 21 points and Isaiah Ford added 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Posen 56, Au Gres 11

AU GRES–The Posen got a solid team win on Tuesday, beating Au Gres 56-11.

Posen (11-2, 7-0 North Star League) jumped out a 24-4 lead after one quarter and cruised from there.

“We did a good job pushing the ball up the floor,” Posen coach Karl Momrik said. “It was a good game for us and everybody got in on the action.”

Elena Kalbitzer led Posen with 15 points, Makayla Kamyszek added 13 and Riley Krajniak had 11.

Posen hosts Atlanta on Friday in the first game of a varsity doubleheader.

Onaway 56,

Forest Area 48

FIFE LAKE–Breya Domke scored 18 points and the Onaway girls basketball team used a strong third quarter to get by Fife Lake Forest Area 56-48 on Tuesday.

Onaway (8-5, 7-3 Ski Valley Conference) led 15-7 after one quarter and 27-22 at halftime, but put away the Trojans after an 18-8 run in the third quarter.

“It wasn’t our best night. The kids seemed out of it for whatever reason, but a big third quarter kept us in it and we never looked back,” Onaway coach John George said. “We played better defensively as the game went on. The kids showed a lot of effort and I appreciate that.”

Jillian Chaskey added nine points for Onaway and Taylor Larson added eight.

Onaway plays at Gaylord St. Mary on Thursday.
