Alpena hockey team shuts out Midland

MIDLAND — The Alpena high hockey team regrouped after a difficult loss to Big North Conference rival Traverse City West in their annual Purple Game on Friday night by traveling to Midland and shutting out the Chemics 2-0 to get back into the win column.

Blaise Keller broke a scoreless tie with 1:15 remaining in the second period as the Wildcats cashed in a power play opportunity. Keller found the back of the net on an assist from Mitch Agius to give Alpena a 1-0 lead after two periods.

The Wildcats added an insurance goal in the third as Anden Marceau lit the lamp and it was more than enough scoring for Alpena goaltender Colin Lightfoot recorded a shut out.

The Wildcats improve to 10-12-2 overall on the year.

Alpena will wrap up regular season play on Friday when they host BNC rival and 2019-2020 conference champions, Traverse City Central at Northern Lights Arena.
