PREP ROUNDUP: Hurons roll past Au Gres

ROGERS CITY — The Rogers City boys basketball put together another strong North Star League showing on Tuesday as the Hurons once again played well both offensively and defensively as they cruised past Au Gres by a score of 66-31.

Nick Freel and J.D. Ellenberger combined for 32 points, outscoring the Wolverines by themselves . Freel finished with a game high 17 points and Ellenberger added 15 points to lead the Hurons.

Drew Flewelling scored nine points and Matt Newhouse chipped in with seven points in the victory.

Rogers City improves to 5-3 overall on the year and the Hurons will put their four game winning streak on the line Thursday when they host Atlanta.

WRESTLING

Three place for Alpena in weekend tourney

BENZONIA–Three Alpena High wrestlers placed at Saturday’s tournament at Benzie Central High School.

Matt Barrett (160) took first place in his weight class and Mason Bray (152) and Cameron Kubbe (heavyweight) each took third place in their classes. Both Bray and Kubbe last matches against state qualifiers from last season.

In all, seven wrestlers competed for the Wildcats.

Alpena returns to the mats Saturday at Mio.
