ACC women victorious at Henry Ford

DEARBORN — Teamwork paid off in a big way for the Alpena Community College women’s basketball team on Wednesday.

Brooke Nguyen scored 17 points and four different Lumberjacks finished in double figures as ACC defeated Henry Ford 77-61 to break a two-game losing streak.

Mollie Girard and Karah Dunson each had 14 points and Brooke Jones added 10 for the Lumberjacks (3-9), who pulled away from Henry Ford in the fourth quarter, outscoring it 23-12.

ACC led 20-19 after one quarter, trailed 35-34 at halftime and led 54-49 after three quarters.

“All the girls stepped up and played well. They handled the pressure (that was) put on them and they passed the ball around like a solid team,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “I’m very proud of Emma (Jore) for having 17 rebounds, nine points and eight assists.”

ACC hosts Mott on Saturday.
