Gentry, USA off to 2-0 start at U18 World Championship

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia–Emma Gentry and the United States U18 women’s hockey team is off to a great start at the IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship.

Team USA edged Russia 1-0 on Friday in pool play and defeated Finland 4-1 on Thursday.

A late goal from Ella Huber gave the Americans the win Friday. Huber took a pass from Makenna Webster after the Americans pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and slipped a shot past Russia’s goalie Yulia Volkova.

On Thursday, Gentry, an Alpena native, skated on Team USA’s fourth line and registered two penalty minutes and five shots on goal while finishing +1.

Two second period goals on Thursday from Clara van Wieren and Audrey Wethington gave Team USA more than enough cushion to defeat Finland on Thursday before Rory Guilday scored early in the third period to give the U.S. a 4-1 advantage.

Team USA will play Canada on Sunday in the final preliminary-round game. Fans can stream the game by visiting the following link: https://bit.ly/2EVdpo3
