Lumberjacks come up short at Kalamazoo Valley

KALAMAZOO–Both the Alpena Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams came up short in their quest for victory on Friday.

ACC’s men’s team lost to Kalamazoo Valley 100-75 despite a 27-point effort from Chris DeRocher.

The Lumberjacks got off to a slow start and were forced to play catch-up for most of the game. At one point, ACC went on a 13-0 run to pull within 13, but couldn’t get any closer.

Isaac Hogsett added 13 points for ACC, Logan Guenther had 12 and Garett Miller had 10.

ACC’s women’s team held the lead at halftime and held a lead in the three quarter, but ran out of gas down the stretch and lost to Kalamazoo Valley 76-57.

ACC led 36-30 at halftime and held a four-point lead in the third quarter before Kalamazoo Valley took over.

“The girls played really hard and they did everything I could ask and more,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “I’m very proud of the way that they play.”

Karah Dunson led ACC with 11 points and Brooke Jones had 10.

Both ACC teams are back in action Saturday against Lake Michigan College in Kalamazoo.
