Alcona soccer completes big comeback win
OSCODA — The Alcona soccer team started slow, but completed a thrilling comeback victory on the road Wednesday, defeating North Star League rival Oscoda 3-2.
The Tigers trailed 2-0 with two minutes left in the first half before cutting into the lead.
Alcona tied the game and then scored the game-winning goal with six minutes left as Brett Nelson recorded all three Tiger goals to record a hat trick to propel Alcona to a key NSL victory in the rainy conditions.
“It’s a big win for us. Oscoda is always tough and our kids really stepped up tonight and it was a strong game for us,” Alcona coach Tim Munro said.
Alcona goalkeeper Aidan Wrobel stopped nine shots and the Tigers improved to 4-1 overall on the season and remained undefeated in league play at 3-0 with the victory.
Alcona will be back in action on Monday when it travels to Pinconning.
