PREP ROUNDUP: Area athletes shine at NSL Championships

OSCODA — The Hale boys and Rogers City girls track teams took home first place honors at the North Star League Championships on Thursday at Oscoda High School.

Hale took first with 132 points followed by Au Gres (119), Whittemore-Prescott (101), Alcona (95.5), Oscoda (66), Posen (45), fairview (41.5), Rogers City (35) and Hillman (22).

The Rogers City girls finished first with 135 points and were followed by Alcona (127), Whittemore-Prescott (72), Fairview (64), Oscoda (53), Au Gres (52), Hale (48), Posen (37), Hillman (29), Mio (9).

Winning North Star League championships for the boys included first place finishers: 400 Relay: Damion Stewart, Cody Leeseberg, Elliot Dubuque, John Sharboneau, 47.78 (Alcona); 3,200 Relay: Eyan Hincka, Cameron Paull, Stefan Heise, Tyler Hincka, 9:14.93 (Posen); Shot Put: Sharboneau, 40-1.50; Discus: Sharboneau, 139-8.75; Long Jump: Luke Augsburger, 19-11 (Rogers City).

SOFTBALL

Rogers City splits with Rudyard

ROGERS CITY–The Rogers City softball team split a pair of games with Rudyard on Thursday, dropping the first game 6-4 in eight innings and winning the second game 3-1.

Rudyard won with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning after the Hurons (20-5) battled back from an early 4-0 deficit.

An early home run helped Rudyard during a four-run first inning and the Hurons steadily battled back into the game. Rogers City scored a run in the second inning, two in the third inning and one in the fourth.

Kyrsten Altman took the loss for Rogers City, allowing eight hits and striking out 11.

At the plate, Jeffra Dittmar had a hit and two RBI for Rogers City and Catheryn Hart had a triple. Karissa Rabeau had two hits, Altman had a double and an RBI and Linnea Hentkowski had a hit.

In the second game, Hart thew a two-hitter for the Hurons.

Altman had two hits, Amanda Wirgau had two hits and an RBI; Hart had a solo home run; Dittmar and Kyley LaFleche each had a hit and Alissa Bowden had a hit and an RBI.

Rogers City plays in a tournament at Ogemaw Heights on Saturday and will play Ogemaw Heights and Gladwin in pool play.
