Local athletes compete in D-4 golf regional

GAYLORD–Several local golfers posted solid scores during a Division 4 boys golf regional at Treetops Resort in Gaylord on Wednesday.

Alcona posted a team score of 377 and was led by Kurt Niemetts’ score of 88. He was followed by Aiden Wrobel (91), Patrick Bates (93), Ashton Trary (105) and Jason Sweet (110).

Rogers City posted a team score of 474 and was led by an 89 from Jayce Sauve. Nick Freel added a 102 for the Hurons.

Fairview posted a team score of 490 and was led by a score of 115 from Grant Lietzke.

Leland won the regional with a team score of 323, followed by Frankfort (325) and Suttons Bay (341).

East Jordan’s Miles Imel was the top individual qualifier with an 80, followed by Roscommon’s Riley McNamara (81) and Mackinaw City’s Kal O’Brien (84).

Cardinals take 2

from Atlanta

WHITTEMORE–The Atlanta softball team battled on Wednesday, but came up short in a doubleheader against Whittemore-Prescott, losing 16-1 and 7-6.

Atlanta trailed 2-1 after two innings in the opener, but the Cardinals blew the game open with three more runs in the third inning and 11 more in the fourth inning.

Jada Richter had a hit for Atlanta, Olivia Arnold had two hits and Halle Armock had a hit.

Atlanta’s rally attempt fell short in the nightcap. The Huskies trailed 7-2 after five innings, but rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Jade Forrester, Hailee Brown, Chace Hooper, Kristina Crane, Katrina Wilson, Cherokee Cunningham and Jaidah Chippa each had a hit for Atlanta and Hooper had a pair of RBI.
