Slow start hurts ACC men in loss to Bay College

The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team was unable to overcome a cold shooting night and fell to Bay College by a final score of 81-72 on Monday at Park Arena.

The Lumberjacks got off to a slow start and were ice cold from the field to begin the game and trailed 40-27 at the half.

The game was physical and ACC ran into fouled trouble and the free-throws proved to be the difference as Bay made nine more free-throws than the Lumberjacks.

“It was a really physical game. We didn’t play awful and just couldn’t make baskets,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “We’re not playing bad ball and we’ve played well lately and this is the kind of basketball I know we can play. If we hit some more shots early it’s a much different game.”

Garrett Miller led the Lumberjacks with a team high 23 points, while grabbing eight rebounds and finishing with four steals. Logan Guenther recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Trenton Jantzi added 10 points.

The Lumberjacks will return to the court on Wednesday when they host Oakland Community College in the annual Hoops for Hope game as the men start at 5:30 p.m. with the women following.
