Wildcats beaten by Dow

SAULT STE. MARIE–The Alpena High School hockey team took it on the chin Saturday, losing 6-1 to Midland Dow.

Both sides played to a 1-1 tie after one period, but Dow took over from there, netting three goals in the middle frame and two more in the final stanza.

Alpena’s only goal came in the first period after Colby Plowman scored during a 5-on-3 power-play in the first period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

The loss marks the second defeat in three games for the Wildcats (10-3-1). Alpena will renew its rivalry with Marquette on Thursday at the Traverse City Showcase. Alpena will also play on Friday, facing off against Grand Rapids Christian.
