Strong 2nd half leads ’Cats past Oscoda

OSCODA–Jake Schiller and Aidan Day each scored two goals and the Alpena High boys soccer team played a strong game in the second half to beat Oscoda 7-0 on Monday.

Grant Botha, Caleb Eaton and Kyle Barbeau each had single tallies for the Wildcats (2-2) and Wenton Harrison made two saves to earn the shutout.

Alpena led 1-0 at halftime before turning on the jets in the second half.

“The first half was almost a mirror of Saturday; we had great chances to score, but we were shooting high and wide of the frame,” Alpena coach Tim Storch said. “In the second half, it came together. We were dangerous with a lot of different people and dangerous in front of the net.”

Alpena hosts Sault Ste. Marie at 7 p.m. today.

Alpena’s JV team won its season opener 4-1.
