Alpena baseball team tops Nighthawks at home

The Alpena baseball team easily took a pair of games from the Soo Nighthawks on Saturday at Alpena High School, winning 10-0 and 13-1.

Logan Guthrie and Aidan Goike combined to throw a no-hitter for the Wildcats (18-10) in the opener and Guthrie earned the win.

Goike led Alpena with two hits.

In the nightcap, Cam DeCaire earned the win for Alpena but shared time on the mound with Ben Budnik, Cam Cosbitt, Bailey Marquardt and Josh Lucas.

Lucas and Lars MacArthur each had two hits for Alpena and Cosbitt and Budnik each had a triple.

Alpena plays at Ogemaw Heights on Tuesday.

Hurons go 1-2 at

Ogemaw tourney

WEST BRANCH–The Rogers City softball team went 1-2 on Saturday during a tournament at Ogemaw Heights.

The Hurons lost their opener to Midland Bullock Creek 12-10, won their second game 19-2 against Tawas and lost their last game 16-6 to Linden.

In the first game, Jayna Hance took the loss for Rogers City (28-3), allowing 12 runs on 13 hits with six strikeouts.

Kayla Rabeau had a double among three hits; Hance had two hits; Kyrsten Altman had two hits; Hannah Fleming had two hits and two RBIl Taylor Fleming had a triple and an RBI; Hannah Dittmar had a hit and two RBI; Saige Wagner had two hits and three RBI and Amanda Wirgau hit her first home run in the sixth inning.

Altman earned the win for Rogers City in its second game, allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.

Rabeau had a grand slam and five RBI; Altman had a three-run home run; Hance had a triple and an RBI among two hits; Jordyn Schalk had a hit and two RBI; Hannah Fleming had a double and an RBI; Taylor Fleming had two doubles and three RBI; Dittmar had two doubles and two RBI; Wagner had a home run and two RBI among two hits and Jazmyn Saile had two hits.

Rogers City led 3-0 early in the third game, but Linden stormed back and eventually overtook the Hurons.

Altman had a double; Rabeau had a double and two RBI; Taylor Fleming had a hit and two RBI and Hance had a hit.

Rogers City plays at Whittemore-Prescott today and will play at Alpena on Wednesday.
