Senior-laden boys track team has unfinished business to attend to

Courtesy Photo The Alpena boys track team will be leaning on its veteran leadership to stay competitive in the Big North Conference this season.

After putting together a solid season a year ago and returning some key standouts to what looks like could be a loaded roster, the Alpena boys track team is determined to build on the success that they had a year ago.

The Wildcats will return two key members that qualified to the Division 1 track and field state finals a year ago.

“It’s a feather in your cap if you can get someone down to states. Our region is extremely tough and it always has been,” Alpena coach Bob Bennett said. “When we qualify someone for the state meet and when someone gets close to to a school record, breaks a school record or qualifies for a state meet, that’s huge and we treat it that way.”

Both Alec LeTourneau and Mitchell Day will return and both have big expectations for their final season.

Day has already signed with Wake Forest, but he still feels he has some work that needs to be done after finishing as a state runner-up last year.

LeTourneau is another standout that will be back after putting together a stellar junior season. LeTourneau became the fourth male pole vaulter in school history to win a conference title and he will look build on that.

LeTourneau signed with Grand Valley State University next year, but much like Day, he feels there is a lot to accomplish.

Sophomores Aden Smith and Josh Smith are two of the top sophomores in the state and will run distance races for the Wildcats while look to make an impact.

Aidan Day will look to help out the team during his first ear on the team as he will also be a distance runner.

Seniors Trevor Roznowski and Randy Udell will also be back for Alpena and they both hope to build on successful years competing in the shot put and discus.

Levi Goebel recently signed with Alpena Community College and will be an important piece of the 800 meter relay team along with senior Wade Roznowski.

Along with Wade Roznowski and Goebel, Noah Carstens will also be leaned on as the three sprinters will be looked at to score big along with Udell and Trevor Roznowski in the field events.

Zachary Zaborney, Truman Vaughn and Hayden Goebel will compete in the hurdles and look to score big for Alpena.
