Three players post double-doubles in Cards win over RC
ONAWAY–Trevor Wregglesworth, Keaton Brewer and Cody Cruse all recorded a double-double and the Onaway boys basketball team defeated Presque Isle County rival Rogers City 64-57 on Monday.
Onaway (9-8) trailed after each of the first three quarters, but overtook the Hurons (12-5) in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 27-18 in the final eight minutes.
“We really picked it up (in the fourth quarter). Trevor obviously had a big game for us, but Cody Cruse got hot,” Onaway coach Eddy Szymoniak said. “The biggest thing was we got aggressive taking it to the basket and they had a hard time defending us.”
Wregglesworth led Onaway with 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Brewer added 19 points and 10 rebounds and Cruse had 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Onaway hosts Bellaire on Wednesday.
Jacob Hilla paced Rogers City with 14 points and Phil Grambau and Andrew Radke added 11 and 10 points respectively.
“We played hard, but Onaway played a great game and it was a back-and-forth battle,” Rogers City coach Matt Ponik said. “We just didn’t execute down the stretch and they did.”
Rogers City hosts Alcona on Wednesday.
