LINCOLN — Every coach loves getting a good team effort and on Tuesday night that’s exactly what Alcona coach Toby Suttle got out of his boys basketball team as they defeated Posen by a final score of 60-29 in front of a home crowd at Alcona High School.

The Tigers nearly lead from start to finish and everyone on the roster chipped in and got into the scoring column in the convincing victory.

Posen’s Jared Sharpe opened the game with a deep three, but it would be the only lead the Vikings had all night as Alcona dominated inside and outrebounded Posen early and often which led to many second and third chance opportunities that led to easy points.

After Sharpe’s three, the Tigers rattled off 11 unanswered points and forced Posen coach Chris Keller to call a timeout.

Sharpe was able to connect on another three out of the timeout as the Vikings were living beyond the three-point line early and had some success as their first three baskets came from downtown.

Posen was able to cut the lead back to two because of those three’s, as the game went on, the shots just would not fall.

After taking a seven point lead into the second quarter, the Tigers started to build on their lead and took a 31-19 lead into the half as Posen did everything they could early to keep pace with Alcona.

“It was a good win for us tonight and I thought we played hard and it was nice to see everyone get into the scoring column,” Suttle said.

The Tigers came out of the break and completely dominated the second half of play as they held Posen to just 10 points the rest of the way and got scoring from anywhere and everywhere as they cruised to a 31 point victory.

All 10 players on the roster scored as Alcona was led by Antavius Mikazes and Jordan Steiner who each had 10 points apiece. Alex Stephenson added nine points, Luke Moyer had eight and Conner McCoy and Devon Mills chipped in with seven points apiece.

“Everyone worked hard tonight and it’s always great to be able to get everyone playing time because all of these guys work hard in practice and it’s just nice to see everyone get rewarded,” Suttle said.

Alcona improves to 8-4 overall on the year and will host Mio on Friday.

Posen was led by Jared Sharpe who scored nine points. Jeremy Misiak added six points and Dylan Schuch chipped in with five points in the losing effort.

The Vikings fall to 1-8 overall on the year and will be back in action on Friday when they host Hale.
