Late shot sends Fairview past Alcona

FAIRVIEW–Drake Willobee hit a buzzer beater to send the Fairview boys basketball team past Alcona on Tuesday, 55-53.

After leading the whole game, the Eagles (8-2) found themselves tied with the Tigers and they got the ball back with 30 seconds left. Fairview ran the clock down before Willobee hit the game-winning shot.

“Our defense broke down and they made some good plays. Alcona never quit and they kept attacking,” Fairview coach Rick Ebert said. “Little by little they came back.”

Fairview led by 14 at one point in the second half, but the Tigers made a late stand, outscoring the Eagles 14-9 in the fourth quarter.

Alcona led 36-27 at halftime and 46-39 after three quarters.

Seth Cleeves led Fairview with 22 points and Jeremy Fleszar added 16. Jordan Steiner paced Alcona with 16 points.

Fairview plays at Hillman on Friday.
