Alpena boys tennis team falls to Vikings

Despite falling to Big North Conference rival Cadillac by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday, Alpena tennis head coach Charlie Giordano saw a lot of positives in his team.

“I am very proud of how the boys competed. We never quit and played with a lot of confidence today and it was good to see,” Giordano said.

The positives that did come out of the day started with Cole Lantz, who won a match at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Lantz is a newcomer to the team this year and has played well throughout the course of the season and continues to show improvement. Lantz looked strong in earning a victory for the Wildcats.

Garrett Dickey and Logan Pinger also won a hard fought No. 1 doubles match, winning by scores of 8-6, 2-6 and 6-3. With an expanded roster this year, there has been plenty of competition and options for Giordano to decide who he wanted to pair in doubles together.

Dickey and Pinger battled to win in three sets and earn the Wildcats their second and final victory of the evening.

At No. 3 singles, Alec Paulsell lost a tough match 0-6, 7-5 and 2-6. Iu Kawata and Jacob Osterland lost in three sets at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 3-6 and 4-6.
