Hillman softball splits with Bulldogs

INDIAN RIVER – The Hillman softball team split a doubleheader against Inland Lakes on Tuesday.

The Tigers dropped a close one in game one, losing by a final score of 4-2. Vanessa Schook started and got hit with the loss, allowing seven hits and striking out seven.

At the plate, Schook had two hits and an RBI. Morgan Dove also had an RBI.

Hillman bounced back and won the nightcap convincingly, winning by a final score of 12-3.

Kalen Tchorzynski picked up the win, stiking out seven and allowing just four hits.

Offensivley, Tchorzynski, Morgan Armon and Andrew Taratuta all doubled in the game and Schook collected one hit.

The Tigers are now 16-6 overall and will play host to Rogers City on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Hillman splits with Bulldogs

INDIAN RIVER -The Hillman baseball team split a doubleheader against Inland Lakes on Tuesday. The Tigers dropped game on by a score of 4-3.

Hillman’s Kory Henigan pitched six innings in the opener, allowed four runs on six hits, four walks and struck out five as he was hit with the loss.

Dylan Steinke was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Jared Juergens went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Andrew Funk and Caine Hunt each collected a hit in the losing effort.

Hillman was able to rebound and win game two by a score of 10-4.

Trenton Hopp earned the win pitching six innings while allowing four runs on four hits as he walked three and struck out four.

Steinke led the way again offensively going 1-for-3 with a double, walk and three RBI. Kyler Moir went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hopp helped his own cause going 2-for-4, Nic Taratuta was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gage Steinke and Travis Fessler each collected a hit as well.

JV BASEBALL

Alpena sweeps

Ogemaw

WEST BRANCH – The Alpena JV baseball team earned two more victories on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader against Ogemaw Heights.

The Wildcats took game one by a score of 12-0. Lucas Crosby got the win, pitching six innings, allowing just two hits, one walk and striking out seven.

Offensively, Bruz Copping and Aiden Goike led the way going 3-for-3. Logan Guthrie and Kolin Donajkowski each went 2-for-4.

Copping toed the rubber in game two, going the distance, tossing seven innings of one hit ball, while striking out 10 in leading Alpena to a 10-2 victory in the nightcap.

Copping also went 3-for-5 at the plate. Chris Durocher was 3-for-4 and Guthrie went 2-for-4.

The Wildcats improve to 12-1-1 overall and are 9-1 in Big North Conference play. The team will be back in action today when they travel to Tawas.

JV SOFTBALL

Alpena earns split with Ogemaw

WEST BRANCH- The Alpena JV softball team split a doubleheader against Ogemaw Heights on Tuesday.

The Wildcats were victorious in game one, winning a high scoring affair 11-8.

Kady Gehrke started on the mound and picked up the win, walking three and striking out three. Offensively the Wildcats were led by Ryley Alexander who went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Alpena dropped game two in another high scoring affair by a final score of 11-7. Lilly Lewis started on the mound and Gehrke came on in relief.

The team still holds an impressive 21-3-1 overall record and will be in action this weekend when they host the Alpena JV tournament on Saturday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Alpena tops Gaylord

GAYLORD – The Alpena track and field team defeated Gaylord on Tuesday 99-63. It was a total team effort by the Wildcats as they had several first place finishers. The team finished first in all four relays.

First place finishers were, 100m, Wade Roznowski (11.97), 400m, Kolin Ghidoni (53.43), 800m, Ghidoni (211.39), 200m, Roznowski (23.62), 3200m, Aden Smith (10:22), Pole Vault, Alec LeTourneau, (12′) Discus, Tyler Udell (128′), Shot Put, Trevor Roznowski (33.7).

The team had three second place finishers, nine third place finishers and seven fourth place finishers.

Alpena will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Ogemaw.

RC girls, Alcona boys lead field at Alcona

LINCOLN – The Rogers City girls and the Alcona boys track and field teams finished first at the North Star League meet at Alcona High School on Tuesday.
