Rogers City wrestling team prevails as tournament champs

ONAWAY – At the end of a long hard fought day on the mats, it was the Rogers City wrestling team that stood tall as winners of the North Star League/Straits Area Conference Challenge.

The Hurons put together a great effort, winning the tournament with 150 points, edging out Mio who took second place with 145 points.

Sam Sobeck (103), Tommy Vogelheim (119), Tristan Baller (125) and Justin Saile (145) were the four tournament champions on the day for Rogers City.

Juan Beltran (171), Quintin Kelly (189) and Chandler Belland (285) each earned runner-up honors.

Casey Szatkowski (215) took third place and Jonathan Molzan (160) earned a fourth place finish.

Rogers City also got victories from Austin Cook (112), Andrew Haselhuhn (130) and Max Kowalewski (140).

The Hurons will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to St. Ignace.
