ALPENA — The Alpena Community College baseball team opened its home schedule in impressive fashion, sweeping Bay College in a doubleheader with 5-0 and 7-6 victories.
The Lumberjacks set the tone early in game one behind a dominant pitching performance. Lane Gross led the way on the mound, and Alpena’s staff was in control all afternoon. Gross, along with Ivan Kosmerick, Kaleb Donajkowski, and Jacob Brohl, combined to strike out 20 Bay College hitters across the two games.
Alpena carried that momentum into game two, holding off a late push from Bay College to secure the 7-6 win. Mason McQuillin came on in relief to shut the door and earn the save.
Offensively, the Lumberjacks were led by Corbin Allen and Marcus Castellon, who sparked the lineup throughout the day. The duo combined for six hits, six RBIs, and four runs scored, providing key production in both games.
With the sweep, Alpena improves to 7-4 in conference play as the team continues to build momentum heading deeper into the season.
The Lumberjacks will return to action next weekend when they host Muskegon Community College at Veteran’s Field in Ossineke.
