DETROIT — Haley Stenz shined at the MHSAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday and Saturday. Stenz earned an impressive second‒place finish in the girls 125‒lb weight class.

Haley opened the tournament by securing a 19-3 technical fall over Hudsonville’s Sidney Eaton. She continued her strong run with a pin in the quarterfinals against Monroe Jefferson’s Morgan Simota, guaranteeing herself an All‒State placement. In the semifinals, Haley defeated Hamilton’s Korrayah Kapenga 5-0 to earn her spot in the state championship match.

Haley took an early lead against Adriana Murray of Yale and battled through the final match. She finished the tournament as the Runner-Up 125‒lb girl wrestler in the entire state of Michigan, an impressive accomplishment by a sophomore.

Haley’s performance capped off a remarkable season for both herself and the Alpena wrestling program.
