Taylor– Last weekend Team SkellaFit Powerlifting brought 14 competitors to the American Powerlifting Federation’s Michigan State Championships. The team returned to Alpena with 20 1st Place medals, two 2nd Place medals and for the second year in a row, the Team Trophy.
“If you keep adding more members to your team, we might as well just fill out the rest of the plates on the trophy with your name on it.” APF Michigan President Art Little said jokingly to SkellaFit Owner and Team Coach Cristi Johnson.
“This year’s State competition was a visual representation of the support and camaraderie we see every day inside our training studio,” said Johnson, “We had seven returning lifters and seven athletes who were competing for their very first time. The fact that they all brought home hardware is truly remarkable.”
Several of the SkellaFit lifters at this year’s competition broke state records, which have been submitted for verification, however at the competition Erin Body was confirmed for breaking a National Record in Women’s Bench Press Master (50-54) 110k.
“Getting to be a part of a team that not only continually succeeds, but is recognized for our endless positivity towards everyone around us is an amazing experience,” said gold medalist Peyton Kaiser,”Representing Alpena and SkellaFit as an athlete is so special, and bringing home a gold medal doesn’t hurt either.”
“Surrounded by strength, lifted by my team, and fueled by belief–this weekend was a reminder that we never rise alone.” said second year lifter Brandy Shooks of Presque Isle.
Next the team will head to the APF/AAPF National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah.
