ALBA – The season came to an end Wednesday for the Hillman Tigers varsity girls’ basketball team after suffering a 66-17 defeat to the top -ranked Gaylord St. Mary’s in the second round of the MHSAA district playoffs.

The Snow Owls set the tone early with a strong defensive effort that gave Hillman nothing but problems and left no doubt what the outcome of the game was going to be because of a strong start.

The full-court press from Gaylord resulted in numerous turnovers by the Tigers as St. Mary’s outscored Hillman 46-6 in the first half.

Next up for Gaylord St. Mary’s is a matchup with Johannesburg-Lewiston Friday at 7 p.m. in the district final game in Alba.

For Hillman, its season comes to an end with an overall record of 7-18.
