OSCODA – The Oscoda Owls secured the 100th career victory for their head coach Michael Poland in a thrilling 37-36 win over the Rogers City Hurons on Tuesday in Oscoda.

Oscoda fell to defeat and avenged a 27-point loss from two weeks ago with a come from behind victory.

Down double digits in the second quarter, Jack Poland scored 12 unanswered points to even things up. Trailing by five entering the fourth quarter of play, Crue Weisenstein scored eight points to give Oscoda the advantage and secure a one-point victory.

Crue Weisenstein, Reed Curley, Randey Eschenburg and Hunter Vincenty-Cole led the way in scoring with eight points each.

Jack Poland added five points, Dustin Filipiak and Zayne Altz both finished with two points.

Coach Poland discussed the effort of his seniors on senior night.

“I’m so happy for our seniors Randey Eschenburg, Tyler Kretchman, & Dustin Filipiak,” Poland said. “Jack Poland and Curley both gave us good minutes, and it was a great team effort by all of our guys.”

Reaching the 100-win threshold is no easy task in high school basketball, Poland discussed the milestone and what it means to him.

“I’m appreciative of the milestone but feel it represents more of the accomplishments of our program and players over the last several years,” Poland said. “It also represents what Seth Alda started in 2012 when he took over our program.”

Poland said reaching the century mark for wins says a lot about the people who preceded him in the basketball program.

“Reaching 100 wins would not be possible without the program he built,” he said. ” What we have done together in his seven years and in my seven years as the varsity coaches at Oscoda Area High School, with nearly 180 wins means the most to me, our program, and fourteen years of outstanding players.”
