Alpena wrestling crowns two champions

The Alpena boys wrestling team crowned two champions on its way to a fourth-place team finish at the Big North Conference Tournament in Cadillac on Saturday.

Ethan Kowalski (113) and Hudson Derry (175) earned first team all-conference honors with undefeated first-place finishes on the day.

Westin Mitchell (190) earned second- team all-conference honors with a second-place finish.

Jude Krey (126), Jonathon Parris (132), Brody Oliver (165) and John Dargis (285) earned honorable mention with third- place finishes at the tournament.

The Wildcat wrestlers will be competing in Ludington on Thursday for the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA ) team district championships, the boys will also compete in Gaylord on Saturday.

The girl wrestlers will travel to Grayling on Sunday, for the MHSAA individual district championships.
