Alpena gymnasts braving the storm to shine at Sweetheart Snowfest

LUDINGTON – Despite the snowy conditions, the Alpena AAU Gymnastics team delivered a powerhouse performance on February 7 at the Sweetheart Snowfest Invitational. Eleven local gymnasts traveled to the Flipstars Gymnastics Center, braving the elements to secure a massive haul of medals and podium finishes.
Xcel Silver Team takes second overall
The Xcel Silver squad was the largest contingent of the day, earning a collective second-place finish against a competitive field. The team’s success was anchored by several standout individual performances:
– Aubrey Haney dominated the floor, sweeping first-place honors in every single event, including vault (9.4), bars (9.6), beam (9.5), and floor (9.75), for a massive all-around score of 38.25.
– Jensen Prevo captured three first-place finishes, taking the top spot on vault (9.4), bars (9.6), and the all-around (37.7).
– Alayna Gosselin soared to first on the vault with a 9.6, while adding a third-place finish on beam (9.4) and taking second in the all-around (37.4).
– Marla Beltinck claimed first on vault (9.5) and third-place finishes on bars (9.1), beam (9.4), and the all-around (37.3).
– Madilynn Baur earned silver on the floor (9.4) and bronze on vault (9.4).
– Iyla Smith secured second on bars (9.3) and third-place finishes on vault (9.3) and the
all-around (36.8).
– Ember Jasso rounded out the Silver success with second-place finishes on bars (9.3),
beam (8.9), and the all-around (36.2).
Xcel Gold Team claims first place
The Xcel Gold team reached the top of the podium, securing a first-place team finish thanks to high scores across the board:
– Elliot Radford led the group with a first-place finish on bars (9.3), alongside second-place finishes on beam (9.4), floor (9.2), and the all-around (37.2).
– Madelyn Coffman proved her consistency, earning second place on vault (9.4), beam (9.4), and the all-around (37.0).
– Elise Budd captured the gold on beam with a 9.5 and took second on bars (9.1), finishing fourth in the all-around (36.2).
Platinum performance
In the Xcel Platinum division, Lydia Allen represented Alpena as the lone competitor in her category. Allen put on a stellar display, earning second-place finishes across the board on vault (9.3), bars (8.8), beam (9.3), and the all-around (36.5).
The Alpena AAU gymnasts continue to prove their mettle, showing that neither tough competition nor Michigan winter weather can slow their momentum.
