ALPENA – The Alpena boy’s basketball team won in convincing fashion, 87-38, over the Onaway Cardinals at the Thunder Bay Junior High in Alpena on Saturday.
The Wildcats ended their regular season on a high note and the win sets the stage for playoff action which begins tonight against Petoskey, in Petoskey.
Every Alpena player got playing time, and each one got their name in the scoring column.
Bryton Nostrandt led the way with 20 points, and CJ Havermahl had 13 points. Evan Hahn contributed 10 points, Kai Peterson and Wyatt Srebnik added nine points each. Chase Coulon scored eight points.
Alpena Head Coach Evan Neff said he was pleased with his team’s effort in its last game of the regular season.
“It was really good to get everyone some time on the floor; I thought we did some pretty good things,” Neff said.
Now the focus for Neff and the Wildcats shifts to playoff basketball.
“We had a really good practice yesterday and this was really in preparation for both Petoskey, and moving forward, getting our young guys reps and I was happy to get a twentieth game in,” Neff added.
