Strong second half carries Hillman boys

The Hillman boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to Johannesburg-Lewiston on Saturday and secured a 56-39 victory on the road over the Cardinals.

The win improves the Tigers’ record to 9-1, while the cardinals drop to 0-9.

Hillman battled foul trouble and a sluggish start as three of its five starters would sit out the second quarter and Hillman was outscored to 17-10.

Heading into the half the score was deadlocked at 23-23.

The defense and offense would pick up in the second half as Hillman outscored JoBurg 33 to 16 and held onto its lead for the remainder of the game.

Hillman Coach Eric Muszynski discussed the difference between the first and second half for his team.

“Today was a tale of two halves. We had some adversity in the first half with foul trouble, but I thought some guys stepped up, and we did what we had to do to secure the win,” Muszynski said.

Junior Eddie Prue would score 22 points for the Tigers, all coming in the second half. Guard Ty Muszynski contributed 12 points as well, rounding out the double figure scorers for Hillman.

Senior forward Evan Crane provided filled the stat sheet by scoring nine points, grabbing eight rebounds, and collecting five steals.
