Alpena wrestling flexes its muscles in Grayling
The boys and girls Alpena Wrestling teams continued their promising start to the season this weekend at Grayling Individual Tournaments highlighted by four first-place finishes.
The boys wrestled first on Saturday at the Grayling Don Ferguson Individual Tournament in fifth place in team scores in the large 26 team tournament.
Ethan Kowalski (113) and Hudson Derry (175) went undefeated earning first-place finishes with dominating performances.
Cayden Smith (150) and Westin Mitchell (175) both earned second place finishes by winning their matches all the way to the finals. Brody Oliver (165) and Owen Zitlau (190) fought through tough brackets to earn sixth place finishes at the meet.
The girls wrestled on Sunday at Grayling’s Girls Individual Tournament earning an eighth- place finish in the team standings out of 30 teams despite only having six girls in the competition.
Carolyn Parker (100) and Haley Stenz (125) both won all of their matches by pin on their way to first-place during the tournament. Marleigh Hann (130) added to the team score with two wins and Madelyn Farley (155) with one win.
The boys wrestlers will be back in action on Saturday at the Boyne City Holiday Classic and the girls return to action on Monday at the Mt. Morris Girls Individual Tournament.
