Alpena High School swim team ends season strong

Last week, the Alpena Wildcats girls swim team traveled to Saginaw Valley State University to compete and came home with a third-place conference finish.

On day one, there were a total of 21 individual personal records. On Saturday, the team as a whole had 15 personal records and nine of the local competitors earned a trip to the podium.

Varsity Girls and Boys Swim Coach Jennifer Johnson said the team’s performance is impressive, as the swimming program continues to re-establish itself.

“What a way to finish strong and represent Alpena in its only third year back,” Johnson said. “Hard work, dedication, and focus led to a great accomplishment each and every day leading to this.”

The team was led by Johnson, Elizabeth Jacqueshe and this year’s captains Tryst Bukowiecki, Elizabeth Rabbideau and Kaelyn Roznowski.

The rest of the team consisted of seniors Hailey Diemond, Kelsie Mousseau, Ava Jacques, Kaelyn Roznowski, Juniors Bailee Diemond, Tryst Bukowiecki, Madelyn Farley, Elizabeth Rabbideau, Olivia Sherwood, Gabriella Tolan,and Eva Trainer.

The sophomores were Annette Faircloth, Maddox McClintic, Arabella Nunez, Haley Stenz and freshman Nandi Bancroft, Brynn Beatty, Penelope Conboy, Emma Darga, Lucy Duthler, Jacquelyn Frantz, Jazmyne Westfall and Emma Winfield Johnson also had strong showings this season.
