Alpena volleyball wins tournament

INDIAN RIVER, Mich. — The Alpena High School volleyball team delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday, October 18, capturing the championship at the Inland Lakes Invitational after going undefeated throughout the day.

The Wildcats opened with a strong showing in pool play, defeating Manistique, Hillman, and Pickford to advance as the top seed. In bracket play, Alpena maintained its momentum with wins over Hillman and Manistique before sealing the title with a hard-fought victory against Saint Ignace.

The tournament featured 10 teams, but Alpena’s depth and teamwork kept the momentum moving in a positive direction. The Wildcats had standout serving fromLaura Poli and Grace Cameron, whose aggressive play at the line kept opponents off balance. Cameron also scored repeatedly with timely tips at the net.

Madelynn Cameron and Kaila Girard led the team’s offensive attack, powering through key points with strong hitting, whileLilly Rospierski added several strategic plays at the net. On defense, Ashlyn Grey and Emily Van Horn anchored the back row with sharp passing and quick reactions.

Paige Samp and Emily Parsons provided consistent strength in the front row, whileOlivia Hitzelberger and Amaya Brousseau contributed crucial plays at the net to keep Alpena’s momentum rolling.

Head coach Kolby Andrews praised the team’s focus and energy throughout the day, noting that every player contributed to the successful outing. “The girls played with a ton of grit today. We played almost 10 hours of volleyball and dominated at times and came from behind at others. It was a fun day and a great day for Wildcat volleyball.”

The Wildcats have a busy week ahead of them, with 3 conference games. The Wildcats will be back at home on Thursday, October 23rd when they play Cadillac for Senior Night
