Alpena gymnasts Callie Brousseau, Faith Dragiewicz, and Brooke Smith traveled to Houston, Texas to prove their abilities against other gymnasts in the nation. The three young ladies attended the AAU Junior Olympic Games from July 22 through Aug. 2.

All three competed in the preliminary meet which determined whether or not they would move on to the Junior Olympic competition. At the preliminary meet, all three gymnasts did well, but only Brousseau and Smith qualified for the JO meet.

Brousseau qualified for beam and earned a 9.65, while Smith qualified for vault and floor, earning a 9.325 and 9.575, respectively. With these scores both Brousseau and Smith placed second, qualifying them each as a Junior Olympian.

“I could not be prouder,” said Coach Billy Brousseau. “They all came to do their best and they exceeded everyone’s expectations. They represented Alpena in a way that no one else has, at the highest of competitions.”
