No question that Berriman should keep post

This letter is being written to support the actions of Tom Berriman - principal of Ella White school. I am a graduate of the Alpena School system and I believe in rules and boundaries. If a child is on the floor throwing a tantrum and disturbing others around them, then a supervising individual should have the right to contain the child and teach them the difference between right and wrong. From the stories in the news, Mr. Berriman rightfully picked the child up and took him into an isolated area where he could talk to the child and calm him down. This is what any adult and mentor ...

Council made the right decision on fluoride

It was the best news in a long time to see that the City Council determined they were not qualified to continue with adding a known toxic substance to the city water. One must only look at the bags of fluoride on the front page of The Alpena News with skull and crossbones on the bags in clear sight. I am glad to see the bags of toxic stuff from China will no longer be added to the water supply system. Why wait until May? The decision is made! The problem with the bags is that they cannot go to the local, but dump but to a level 4 toxic dump site. RICHARD OLREE, Hillman

In rebuttal to passage of new Marriage Act

In rebuttal to the Letter to the Editor in Saturday’s paper, “Marriage Act moves us to a more perfect union.” It is a shame that our government should have to make any laws pertaining to marriage God is the one who ordained marriage. Genesis 2:18: “And the Lord God said it is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a help meet for him.” Genesis 2:22: “And the rib which the Lord God had taken from man, made He a woman.” Genesis 2:24: “There fore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh.” Food ...

Marriage Act moves us to a more perfect union

This week President Biden signed into law the Respect for Marriage Act which will protect same-sex and interracial marriages. This historic legislation ensures the federal government cannot stand in the way of marrying the person you love and guarantees the right and protection to which same-sex and interracial couples, and their children, are entitled. This landmark legislation passed through Congress with bipartisan super-majority support. Twelve Republican Senators joined Democrats in a 61-36 vote, sidestepping a filibuster, while 39 House Republicans joined Democrats in a majority ...

Cheybogan board: Don’t accept resignation

The news report is that Sheriff Clairmont will resign and recommends the Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners appoint his recommendation to replace him. The seeds of fascism are sown, nurtured and grown right here at home. It is unlawful to run for a public office with the intent to resign before fulfilling the term. The Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners should refuse to accept his resignation. In a functioning democracy, they will refer the matter to the Prosecuting Attorney and the Attorney General of the State of Michigan for investigation and potential indictment. WAYNE ...

Let’s stop the poisoning of our water supply

Our city council will make a decision whether to continue to add sodium fluoride to our public water supply on Dec. 19. At a recent city council meeting numerous residents spoke against fluoridation citing a growing number of negative health effects from ingesting fluoride. The only support was from three people employed in the dental profession. Additionally, one opponent handed each council member a booklet featuring 75 articles attesting to the negative health effects. A vote was expected at this meeting, however, Mayor Matt Waligora wisely steered the council to postpone the vote ...
