Time to send Bergman packing

By Joe Lukasiewicz 2 min read

Jack Bergman is asking us to return him to Congress. In the 8 years he’s been in office, his votes in the House have destroyed industry, livelihoods, and lives.

Every time I fill up my gas tank, I think of Bergman and his cowardice to stand up against Trump’s war of choice with Iran. Without Congressional approval, that illegal war which has spilled American blood, has driven up the cost of diesel and gasoline world-wide. In this rural district, affordable gas and diesel are our life-line to a job, health care, education for our kids, and more. Further, it’s forced farmers into bankruptcy and burdened trucker’s fuel budgets.

When I pass the meat counter at the grocery store and see hamburger at $8 per pound, I wonder how in the world a young family can afford those prices or the inflated price of other staples. Bergman cowers from Trump’s inflation-causing tariffs, his deportation of foreign workers that pick our fruits and vegetables or that work in meat packing facilities.

Congress has the responsibility to finance the government, yet Bergman deferred his constitutional duty to a South African, Elon Musk. Despite being a district highly reliant on natural resources, his silence during Musk’s illegal DOGE gutting of the Forest Service, NOAA, Fish & Wildlife Service, National Weather Service, and other agencies was deafening.

Bergman supported tax cuts for billionaires while gutting Medicaid and now threatening cuts to Social Security. While he and his rich friends prosper, health care costs will soar in 2027 forcing those that still have it, to pay even more for less.

The $40 trillion debt accumulated under Bergman’s rule, has popped mortgage rates to over 7.5% and caused other loan rates to spike. Costing US taxpayers over $1 billion per day to service the interest on that debt, our children are burdened by his financial incompetence.

I supported and voted for Bergman’s opponent, DenNetter, in the primary election. I will be voting for his opponent, Callie Barr, in the general election. Whether a Republican or Democrat, vote for your own interests and that of Northern Michigan by sending Jack Bergman back to his real residence in Louisiana.
